Protection and Account Security

It is meant to deceive the unsuspecting recipient into divulging confidential information such as password, credit card numbers, and bank account information after directing the user to visit a specified website. The website, no matter how similar it is to the real website, is not genuine and was set up only as an attempt to steal the user's information.

You can avoid being a victim by observing the following tips:
- Change password regularly and use strong passwords which are combination of alpha numeric and special characters (e.g. *,$,#,etc.).
- Never use the same passwords that you use for your online banking and your social network account.
- Never list your personal information (complete name, birthday, and billing address, etc.) on your profile page. A common way for a fraudster to hack you financial or other account is to click on “Forgot your password?” link. Answers to the security questions should not be found in your personal profile.
- Do not accept invites asking you to click a link to view someone else’s profile. You might be redirected to a phony site which imitates the legitimate site with messages that entice you to share your passwords or credit card numbers.

Your OTP will only be sent to the mobile number you registered in BDO Online Banking.
Using the current security technologies and processes, BDO assures its clients of the confidentiality and privacy of their online banking sessions. BDO Internet Banking security uses:
- Authentication - Authentication ensures that only authorized users can access the BDO Internet Banking system by verifying the identity of the user. This is enforced through the use of a User Name and Password.
- Network Security – BDO uses a firewall to protect its Internet banking servers from unauthorized Internet access. A firewall is a combination of systems that enforces a boundary between the Internet and the bank's network, while blocking out all unwanted access.
- Encryption - Encryption converts data on the system to a format that is unreadable by anyone who does not have the proper authorization. Currently, BDO Internet Banking uses 128-bit Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) to secure all banking transactions. 128-bit encryption means that there are 2128 - or 3.4 with 38 zeros after it - possible combinations that could access your account information but only one that works for each online banking session.
- Automatic Log-out - BDO Internet Banking automatically logs you out of the system if it detects no user activity for a fixed number of minutes. This protects your accounts from being accessed by the next PC user, especially when using a public or shared computer.
- Password strength – an on-screen meter that indicates the strength of your nominated password.
