BDO wins big at the Asian Excellence Awards
BDO Unibank Inc. was again honored at the recently held Asian Excellence Awards, bagging highly-coveted titles such as Asia’s Best CEO, Asia’s Best CFO, Best Investor Relations Company, and Best Corporate Communications.
Spearheaded by Corporate Governance Asia, the 8th Asian Excellence Awards recognizes companies for their achievements and superiority in management acumen, financial performance, corporate social responsibility, environmental practices and investor relations. Winners for this year were picked from several countries across the region, including China, Hong Kong, India, Japan, Korea, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, Vietnam, and the Philippines.
BDO’s very own Chairperson Teresita Sy-Coson and president and CEO Nestor V. Tan were chosen as Asia’s Best CEOs (Investor Relations) for their superior leadership and excellence in driving the overall management and growth of the Bank.
BDO executive vice president and treasurer Pedro Florescio III, on the other hand, was named Asia’s Best CFO (Investor Relations) while BDO senior vice president of Investor Relations & Corporate Planning Luis S. Reyes Jr. was recognized as Best Investor Relations Professional (Philippines).
“The award for Best CFO goes to the candidate that leads his/her company into the capital markets both in good times and in bad times. In other words, he/she steadies the ship, so to speak, in whatever market backdrop at any point in time,” Corporate Governance Asia said in a statement.
The Best Investor Relations Professional, on the other hand, is awarded to those who excelled in keeping investors well-informed about the developments in their company.
Other awards given to BDO were Best Corporate Communications and Best Investor Relations Company (Philippines).
This is not the first time that BDO was recognized by Hong Kong-based Corporate Governance Asia. In 2017, it named the Bank as one of the region's Icons of Corporate Governance after being consistently recognized for its good governance practice. It also cited Ms. Coson as one of Asia's best corporate directors.
BDO has the distinction of being the only bank in the country among the Top 50 Asean Publicly Listed Companies in Corporate Governance based on the Asean Corporate Governance Scorecard. This recognition was given in recognition of the Asean members' commitment to promote good governance in order to increase foreign direct investments into the region.
