Masbate, Negros Occ, and Samar health centers level up

2021 June – Despite logistical constraints caused by COVID-19, BDO Foundation has successfully renovated four rural health units in three provinces for the benefit of more than 114,000 people.

The corporate social responsibility arm of BDO Unibank rehabilitated Rural Health Unit San Enrique in Negros Occidental, Jiabong Rural Health Unit and Pinabacdao Rural Health Unit and Birthing Facility in Western Samar, and RHU Cataingan and Birthing Clinic in Masbate.

The foundation has rehabilitated a total of 110 rural health units since 2012.

The initiative helps improve the healthcare delivery system in the Philippines, one of the goals under the Philippine health agenda. It contributes to the achievement of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal no. 3 to ensure healthy lives and promote the well-being of people of all ages.

The rehabilitation program is also instrumental in assisting local government units address the effects of the pandemic and helping health workers provide patient care to people affected by the health crisis.

Guided by the municipal health officers of San Enrique, Jiabong, Pinabacdao, and Cataingan, BDO Foundation improved the layout, interiors, and exteriors of the four health centers. The foundation renovated lobbies and waiting areas, offices, clinics, consultation rooms, treatment rooms, and facilities. New furniture and fixtures were installed to help health workers accommodate more patients.

In Cataingan, a play area for children and a waiting lounge for senior citizens were constructed. An activity area for children was also built in San Enrique.

With these improvements in place, doctors, nurses, and midwives are now better equipped to deliver primary and maternal healthcare services.

BDO Foundation’s corporate citizenship initiative in Masbate, Negros Occidental, and Samar is expected to help improve the health and well-being of residents in 104 barangays.

According to Jiabong municipal health officer Dr. Emmanuel Cabanado, “Our patients will feel safe and comfortable in our facility. On behalf of our constituents, thank you to BDO Foundation. Truly, you find ways to help the underserved.”
