What is Energy Efficiency (EE)?

EE is a way of managing and restraining the growth in energy consumption. Something is more energy efficient if it results in the same output/services for less energy input or if it delivers more output/services for the same energy input.

EE is not energy conservation. Energy conservation is reducing or going without a service to save energy.

Improvements in energy efficiency can reduce the need for investment in energy infrastructure, cut energy bills and increase competitiveness. It can help reduce the costs of services used in buildings and factories, such as cooling, heating, lighting, and other appliances and equipment.

EE can be achieved through replacing or upgrading old equipment or changing process technologies with newer ones that are appropriate for a client’s business needs.

How do I get started for Energy Efficiency (EE) financing?

If you are interested in Energy Efficiency financing, you can contact your account officer or a BDO branch personnel, who can then refer you to the SEF Core team.

You can also contact the SEF Core team at 878-4567 or 840-7170.

What is Renewable Energy?

Renewable energy is harnessed from resources that nature regularly replenishes, such as sunlight, wind, water, heat from under the earth’s surface, and agricultural or municipal waste. In contrast to fossil fuels like coal, oil and natural gas which are finite, renewable energy resources will never run out.

RE sources in the Philippines include the following:

  • Biomass Energy – energy harnessed from agricultural waste and by-products, such as rice husk, bagasse, wood chips, corn cobs, etc.
  • Biogas – fuel derived from methane captured from wet biomass, such as animal waste or garbage.
  • Geothermal Energy – energy harnessed from heat under the earth’s surface.
  • Solar Energy – energy harnessed from sunlight or sun’s heat, which can be tapped through use of solar panels or solar thermal tubes.
  • Hydro Energy – energy generated from the movement of water.
  • Ocean Energy –energy derived from the difference in temperatures of surface and deep water (thermal energy) and the movement of tides, waves and undersea currents (mechanical energy).
  • Wind Energy – energy from the wind, which can be utilized through construction of wind turbines.

How do I get started for RE financing?

If you would like to explore RE opportunities, have an existing plan to generate electricity for your business’ own use or to sell to the grid, you can inquire from your account officer or a BDO branch personnel, who can then refer you to the SEF Core team. The SEF Core team will then schedule an introductory meeting to determine which phase the RE project is at and the appropriate action.

You can also contact the SEF Core team at 878-4567 or 840-7170.
